WESTERN AUSTRALIA: It’s Scarborough, but not as you know it. This once sleepy beachside town – just 15 minutes from Perth and your base at Adina Apartment Hotel Perth or Adina Apartment Hotel Perth Barrack Plaza - has undergone its biggest transformation in 30 years making it a must-do on any visit to WA.
With the $100 million facelift to Scarborough’s foreshore now complete, this beachside community north west of Perth has managed to retain its laid-back vibe, its trademark smoothie bars and bright and breezy brunch spots and has added a whole lot more. And a visit to the Rendezvous Perth Scarborough for a drink and a meal puts you in the thick of the action.
Scarborough offers fantastic options for families at the ‘Snake Pit’ activity centre, including a world-class multi-purpose skate park which can be used for skateboarding, scooter and BMX, and a climbing wall catering for small children right through to serious climbers.
Nearby, basketball courts, a barbecue area and a new children’s playground which have been designed around a whale skeleton - interpreting Whadjuk/Noongar Dreaming stories of spirits returning to land through the whales.
At the northern end of the beach a new 11-metre turfed landform has been created called Sunset Hill providing incredible views over the Indian Ocean – it’s the IT SPOT to gather and watch the sun go down. As the sun sets, every Thursday (from November through to April) the Sunset Markets offer a colourful array of pop-up bars and market styles, food truck eats, live music and entertainment.
And for those that enjoy the party scene, Scarborough’s famous dance clubs still bring a buzz to the hood after dark.
