What's the best part of a city staycation? You get to eat as much as you want, share a laugh with friends and colleagues and there's no washing up at the end! And there's no better place to do just that than in the city of Stuttgart. So, here are our top 5 must-dos in the Baden-Württemberg capital.
1. Beers and a View
Make your way to the summit of “Karlshöhe” and you’ll not only have an excellent view over Stuttgart, but also of the local vineyards. If you like hiking, then you can start directly from the municipal district “Stuttgart-Süd'' and remember to pack lots of water as it is thirsty work. For those less athletically inclined, you can also easily reach “Karlshöhe” by public transport. Or, for a mix of both, drive and park enroute and then walk to the top. And there's a fabulous reward awaiting you at the top - a cooling ale from the picturesque beer garden.
2. Culinary Delights for All Tastes
Taste here, nibble there, sip that! Stuttgart's City Market Hall is the perfect spot to indulge in a little guilt-free snacking. This lively market, set in an imposing Art Nouveau building, is where international cuisine meets and marries local delights. And, once inside, a feast for the senses literally awaits. Our top tip is to buy one of Stuttgart's famous “Maultaschen” - these delicious pasta squares stuffed with meat or spinach and are readily available.
3. Cocktails and Champagne Anyone?
Stuttgart is full of surprises! In what is arguably the world’s smallest red light district, you'll find very hip cocktail bars, and particularly along the “Leonhardstraße” . If you want to take your evening to the next level, don't go past the FOU FOU bar. As they say: "Our guests love our location, the crooked corners, the dance floor, the large cocktail bar, the small gin & tonic bar, the lounge area, and our crazy bar kings & service princesses." Take it from us, their cocktails are pretty amazing too!
4. Swabian Specialties
Tradition rules in the "Kochenbas" wine tavern, where all dishes are cooked according to old traditional recipes. Trust us, their specialty dishes taste just like grandma would make them. Here, the dining room is rustic, cosy and invites you to start a conversation with the person sitting at the table next to you.
