Where can you get the best food in town? Want to mingle with the locals? What's special and where do I need to go? With these tips you will experience the real Munich - authentic, up close and just like a local.

    1. Sightseeing byTram

Munich is a pretty city and plenty of locals take the tram, so it's clearly a great way to travel. Visitors to this great city should take a leaf out of the locals' book and combine your sightseeing with tram travel - it couldn't be easier! Munich's streetcar line 19 passes all the major sights and is ideally suited for a round trip through the city. The tram leaves conveniently from the main train station, which is not far from our Adina apartment style hotel in Munich.

    2. The World's Largest Collection of 20th Century Art

In a canary coloured villa in what was the former home of the painter Franz von Lenbach, you'll stumble across the world's largest collection of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Among them are works by the versatile painter and graphic artist Paul Klee or the pioneer of abstract art Wassily Kandinsky. The museum has a great program of exhibitions and some beautiful courtyard gardens to relax in after your visit.  It's our top tip for living like a local!

    3. A Refuge in the City

In the treetops of Giesing - two boroughs within Munich, you'll find a charming cafe in a quaint wooden building featuring pizza, beers and coffees called Gans Woanders. Here, Munich residents like to escape from their everyday life and enjoy a freshly brewed coffee in a lovely designed treehouse. It's self-serve, easy hospitality with a great local vibe and the homemade cakes and pizza from the self-built stone oven are not to be missed!

    4. Baths Make Rainy Days Fun!

On rainy days, the Müller'sche Volksbad baths are a perfect place to while away the hours. These old baths, which opened in 1901, were designed in Art Nouveau style with elaborate ornaments and murals adorning the pool. There's even a sauna and an ice-cold shower affectionately dubbed the "Iron Maiden" to you cool down afterwards.

    5. A Taste of Australia with a View of Munich

It's a taste of Australia in Munich.  The newly opened Fitzroy restaurant, on the 15th floor of the Adina Hotel Munich, has fast become a favourite with locals.  However, the recently opened restaurant is also a much-visited place among locals: Serving modern Australian cuisine and great varietals from Australia, it's the perfect perch to enjoy the best view of the city.

If this has whet your appetite for a little 'me time' in Munich, then come and enjoy the Australian hospitality at the Adina Hotel Munich. Our beautiful, brand-new hotel puts you right in the action of the Werksviertel-Mitte.. complete with views of the alps and with sheep grazing on rooftops. Enjoy the comfort and independence of every Adina apartment within a fully equipped kitchen, washing machine and all the benefits of four-star hotel service.
