GERMANY: Each December the German capital, Berlin, puts on a festive show with no less than 80 Christmas markets that celebrate the silly season. Today we travel across the city for you - from Neukölln to Prenzlauer Berg - to showcase our top 5 Christmas markets.

    1. Nostalgic Neukölln: Alt-Rixdorf Christmas Market

On the second weekend of Advent (from 3 to 5 December) the traditional Alt-Rixdorf Christmas market pop up in the historic neighbourhood around the Richardplatz. It is impossible to beat the romance of this particular market, where master blacksmiths make horseshoes, small children ride ponies and angels recite Christmas poems to the crowds.

    2. Best Views in Mitte: The Rotes Rathaus Berlin Christmas Market

This year, the Christmas market at the city hall Rotes Rathaus starts on 22 November and continues through Christmas and into the New Year. You can't beat this thoroughly modern setting almost directly on Alexanderplatz, with its famous TV tower. And, once the Christmas shopping is done, it's a quick stroll to the panorama Ferris wheel a whopping 50 metres up. From here, you'll love the view of the Brandenburg Gate and nearby Potsdamer Platz.

    3. Christmas in Charlottenburg: Christmas Market at Breitscheidplatz

From 22 November to early January, this gay Christmas market at the famous church Gedächtniskirche attracts visitors with its lavishly decorated stalls and festive lighting. This is the market locals recommend if you're shopping for a last-minute Christmas gift. And, for something pretty special, be sure to buy a beautiful handmade wooden nativity scene from Berlin.

    4. Beats and Mulled Wine in Friedrichshain: Heissa Holzmarkt

Every weekend in December, the Holzmarkt community, on the banks of the river Spree, invite you to experience their gorgeous Winter Wonderland. Here, the culinary offerings go far beyond the typical Christmas market. Our top tip is the creamy Käsespätzle - a delicious sort of cheesy pasta dish, which you can enjoy as you soak in music from the city's hottest DJs.

    5. Art of Lights in Prenzlauer Berg: Lucia Christmas Market at The Kulturbrauerei

The Lucia Christmas Market, named after the Nordic Goddess of Light, runs between 22 November and 22 December and brings Scandinavian Christmas traditions to the streets of Berlin. Here, thousands of lights illuminate the Kulturbrauerei precinct, conveying a sense of peace and cosiness. As you'd expect, there are local and Scandinavian delicacies and handicrafts on offer and marketgoers can even slip on coats that have been warmed by a wood-fired oven.

No matter which Christmas market you choose, all three Adina Hotels in Berlin put you in the thick of the festive action. Our hotels are located in the heart of the city - so choose between Berlin Mitte, Berlin Checkpoint Charlie and the Adina Hotel am Berlin Hackeschen Markt and the Christmas markets that are right for you. If you can't decide, our team are there to help!
