Family Friendly Activities in Lovely Leipzig

GERMANY: Discover the most beautiful and exciting places to visit and explore with your family in Leipzig this summer.

    1. Relaxation and Climbing Fun in the Clara Zetkin Park

The centrally located Clara Zetkin Park, just a few minutes' walk from the city centre, is only one of many green havens in the Saxon metropolis, but by far one of the most popular. Perfect for a day outside with the family is the extensive playground at the racecourse with its many climbing possibilities and water games at the southern end of the park. Parents can lean back with a coffee at the snack bar, while the kids romp around making new friends. Also a great and very popular activity in the park area is counting squirrels: They are very active around here and scurry nimbly from tree to tree, constantly looking for some nuts.

    2. Cooling Down in Leipzig's Oldest Swimming Bath

With 150 years of history, the open-air bath “Schreberbad“ west of the old town is the oldest bathing facility still in use in the city and a popular family destination during the season from May to September. The modernized swimming bath, which got its name from the “Schrebergärten” (allotment gardens) near the area, today comprises three outdoor pools, several relaxing areas and sunbathing lawns, small sports facilities as well as gastronomy and two playgrounds for children. Especially the paddling pool and the wide slide guarantee great water fun! And if the weather is not that good you can enjoy the indoor pool at our hotel.

    3. Construction Playground "Wilder Westen" (Wild West)

The free and pedagogically supervised construction playground “Wilder Westen” in the district Plagwitz is a very special adventure for children from six to thirteen years. Creative huts, towers, bridges and much more are built with craftsmanship between mountains of wooden planks. Whether they are working, hammering or painting – kids can let off steam creatively and see what they have created in the end. In the small garden, herbs and vegetables are cultivated, there is a hollow for building loam, a smithy and a fireplace as well as a corner for willow rod weaving (depending on daily offers). Parents are very welcome, but they can also leave their children supervised and enjoy some time alone together. Good to now: Monday is girls' day at the playground.

    4. Feeding Animals in the "Wildpark Leipzig"

With 800 different species and extensive adventure worlds like the tropical Gondwanaland, Leipzig Zoo is a real must see for families. A good and also complimentary alternative is the Wildlife Park in the green south of the city. On a total area of 42 hectares, native animal species such as deer, moose and wild boars can be observed and even fed in spacious outdoor enclosures. In addition to guided tours and park rallies for children, there is also a pet farm with horses, cows, pigs and chickens, a restaurant and various playgrounds for the little ones.

    5. Discover Your Inner Child at the UNIKATUM Children's Museum

Curiosity and the joy of experimenting are in demand here: In the UNIKATUM Children's Museum near Leipzig's Palmengarten, children and young people are introduced to social and scientific topics in a playful way in interactive exhibitions. Games, workshops, riddles, a costume and craft corner and other activities invite children to participate, discover and try out. The imaginative and annually changing exhibition program is aimed at children of different age groups from pre-school age. In addition to the exhibitions, the UNIKATUM also offers a Sunday family breakfast and a huge pirate treasure hunt in the courtyard garden in summer.
