MORITZ BASTION

The Moritz Bastion was built between 1551 and 1554 and named after Moritz the Elector of Saxony. Right next to the university, the former fortress is the only surviving section from the Medieval city fortifications.

MONUMENT TO THE BATTLE OF THE NATIONS (Völkerschlacht Denkmal)

Not far from Napoleon’s conning tower on the site of the former battlefield during the battle of the nations in 1813, this colossal temple for death and freedom in Europe rises 91 metres in the sky.

GOHLIS PALACE

The Leipzig tradesman and master builder Johann Caspar Richter had the Gohlis Palace built as a summer residence in 1756.

Barthels Hof

Barthels Hof is one of Leipzig’s most significant tourist attractions. Behind its baroque façade, numerous shops and a restaurant with traditional cuisine draw in shoppers and connoisseurs.

Bavarian Railway Station (Bayerischer Bahnhof)

“Leipziger Gose” is a regional beer speciality. The top-fermented beer, which had nearly been forgotten, is being brewed once again today in Leipzig.
